If you do a vacation rental in the more expensive (not necessarily tasteful, just expensive) resorts in Mexico, the house next door always belongs to either Tom Cruise or Sylvester Stallone.

That'll be Kate Bush CBE then.

Not sure I'd recognise most celebs au naturale. Over Christmas my daughter was chatting to Johnny Walker in the shop. I had to ask her who the old grey-haired waster was. Sadly I don't sell the eponimous whisky or I could have made a great joke which I'll bet he's never heard before.

Kate Bush lives a few miles down the coast from me. Occasionally wide-eyed fans - always Japanese for some reason - would come into the shop I was working in and ask for directions to her house. This was last year, had no idea Kate Bush was still popular. I only know her off the Wuthering Heights video assuming she doesn't look like that anymore I don't if I've seen her around or not.

Do feel slightly guilty about the directions thing. Still I'm sure the tourists came to appreciate their extended tour of the local environment and the coastguard were only called out the once.

We have an eclectic mix of music-makers, assorted retirees such as mrs4fun & me [on a pension and so looking for the half-price wine offers] and a err ... smattering of [? - don't know the collective noun for] Gettys. Can't say I've ever been invited to a social with any of the G's but I doubt if they buy their party nibbles in a village shop.

You're right dvo. We have many big houses here which are only occupied for the odd weekend in the shooting season. Unfortunately the super rich tend to be predated by wine companies who specialise in "private clients cellar management". The part-time occupants don't patronise the local High Streets
I think Richa had a different agenda. She used to always ask for her purchases to be delivered, mention that her husband was in Hong Kong and gratuously leave the bedroom door open - or maybe I was imagining it. She always offered me a drink but I, of course, always made my excuses and left. My excuse was usually sitting in the car.

(Was going to edit typo above but that would make the next commentator look like an idiot)

Sol Kerzner used to live a few doors down from here but only used it for a fortnight a year [Wimbledon/Ascot stuff]. Always thought his housekeeper and chauffer had sorted themselves a decent gig [the latter used to pootle along in a rather nice Bentley, which I always imagined was his 'company car'].

Absentee neighbours can certainly make for a quiet life here but I expect it makes things easier if you're able to land the wine/spirits concession for when the owners are actually in residence.

...coming over here, buying our mansions.
There's a buzz around N Dorset/S Wilts that Daniel Craig has bought a place. Either that big house no one knows in Stalbridge or a bit of New Waldour Castle just own the road. Can any one confirm?

I have customer who lives in a bit of Waldour (its split into a few bits, each worth between £1m and £5m.) She also has homes in Honk Kong and the south of France. She is Indian and introduced herself as "Hello, I'm Richa" You have no idea how hard I had to try to stop giving the obvious response of, "Yes considerable Richa."
