a nice idea - maybe a tweak of that last sentence so 'requirement' and 'required' aren't used in quick succession.

Could pad it out with a sentence re not needing to panic buy to make up for the supermarket being shut for one day too (maybe).

A recluse and diagnosed Christmas Bah Humbugger has baffled nutritionists by miraculously managing to remain alive over Christmas and Boxing days on just his usual intake of calories without suffering any perceptible malnutrition.
Initial thoughts are that as he invested in a 2012 Mayan calendar he was under the impression there was not to be a Christmas to get in a fuss over anyway. Also not having to endure the stress and disappointment of unwrapping useless presents, nor suffering the duress and hassle of putting up with visiting family and their kids, meant that his natural metabolic rate remained within it's standard parameters so there was no requirement to eat 4000% more than normal.

Edited, probably badly! But cheers ;-)
