The 90-year old public service broadcaster is believed to have used its position as a kindly ‘Auntie’ figure to meet vulnerable children and offer them ice cream and sweets in its variety of cafes. Several past and present BBC presenters including Tony Blackburn, Esther Rantzen and Keith Chegwin claim to have seen the 80,000 square metre Corporation sneaking off into the night in search of young victims. Blackburn says: “When you entered the building the next day, you got the impression that something wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t just that Bruce Forsyth was still working, there was more to it than that. “I actually remember on one occasion, Broadcasting House worked itself loose from its foundations and asked if there were any Primary schools nearby. I thought it was odd at the time, but now it makes a kind of weird evil perverted sense.” The BBC’s 23,000 employees were kept completely ‘in the dark’ about what the Corporation was up to, apart from a few rogue staff members who were responsible for wheeling the offices within range of vulnerable young people. Many MPs are now asking whether it is right for the taxpayer to continue funding a huge child abusing institution, whose buildings sometimes welcomed coach loads of kids. They have also criticised tributes broadcast to commemorate BBC Television Centre in White City, which is closing in February 2013 and is believed to have been a massive concrete nonce. “When I think of those poor children tap dancing with Roy Castle,” says Esther Rantzen, dabbing tears from her eyes. “Still, that’s life.” Chairman of the BBC Trust Chris Patten has also faced criticism for entrusting a review of the Corporation's practices to Hi-De-Hi star Sue Pollard. Culture Secretary Maria Miller said: "The decision to appoint an over-excitable chalet maid to lead this investigation will do little to restore people's faith and confidence in the BBC. "We want to press on as quickly as possible with a full police investigation into what went on and about any others who may be implicated. I'm thinking in particular of Channel 4 which, let's face it, has always looked well dodgy." On Monday, BBC3 was taken into custody accused of wasting police, and everyone else's, time.
