A Tenbury Wells man who donated more than £2,000 at a charity car wash organised by nurses at Worcestershire Royal Hospital has been given a special award in recognition of his generosity.

Mr Stephen Cadwallader paid more than 100 visits during the weekend fund raiser which took place during a mini heat wave earlier this year.

Organiser, SRN Amanda Jericho said that the support from the community had been ‘fantastic.’ “The nurses were so hot during the event we had to relieve them of their tunics and give them all t-shirts which were kindly donated by the lads at Bob’s Tool Hire in Bromsgrove. Mr Cadwallader came back time and time again to show his support.”

In receiving his award from Worcestersire NHS Trust Mr Cadwallader said, “I was very happy to support the girls during the event. I’ve been to other charity car washes and all you generally get is a quick soap, a rinse and a wipe. But they really went the extra mile for punters. In fact I saw blokes queuing for miles in the heat just to make a donation.”

A hospital spokesman said, “The nurses gave their all despite the very hot weather and ensured that everyone got a magnificent soapy experience. This included an intensive low pressure pre-soak, followed by a warm high pressure rub with a foaming brush. They then applied a triple foam conditioner followed by a high pressure rinse.”

In a separate interview with the Tenbury Wells Advertiser Mrs June Cadwallader said. “I’m extremely proud of Stephen. His unflinching generosity has now been extended to me being awarded the house, car and an income of £55,000 per annum.”
