Jock Beck died yesterday morning, suddenly in a pile of vomit and a heroin induced coma.

For the last 40 years Jock Beck was the UK's foremost drug abuse model, working for the BBC, ITN, SKY News, Government awareness campaigns and most local and national newspapers.

Born in 1955 to a Glaswegian steelworker and a Gloucester barmaid, Jock was first discovered by local newspaper reporter Jeff Prestyn in 1971. Prestyn recalls - "Whilst working on an article about the dangers of marajuana use for the Bristol evening post, we needed someone to roll a spliff, and smoke it for a photgraph. Jock was only too willing to help us out."

Jock Beck had an almost supernatural dexterity, that could allow him to roll up a spliff in gale force wind conditions, smoke it and start another. Whilst his natural gaunt, pasty almost grey pallour made him the perfect poster boy for drug abuse.

His career took off from his first photshoot for the Bristol Evening post, and before long he was called upon by the BBC to model for news reports and documentaries. His association with the BBC meant he was soon drafted by the British Government to be the poster boy for heroin addiction.

"Whilst he wasn't a skag head to start with, he took his work seriously and he would try anything once or twice" said long time friend Dave "the Beast" Beswick.

"His pharmaceutical adventures were legendary, if you could smoke it, snort it, swallow or inject it he would do it. During the 70's he was the employed by Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Aerosmith as a 'Pharmacy consultant'".

Jock died whilst filming a new piece for BBC news.

Jock leaves several drug dealers in shock, out of pocket and wondering how they can continue.

More soon
