Metropolitan police today announced they have issued a warrant for the arrest of Robert Maxwell in connection with sexual abuse allegations.

Police from Operation Yewtree decided to look into Maxwell after receiving an anonymous tip-off from a small balding man who edits a London magazine.

A police spokesperson told Newsbiscuit off the record that "We really dropped the ball on this one. I mean we are looking at all these shady characters from back in the 70s and 80s and they didn't come much shadier than Maxwell. Frankly, heads should roll that he wasn't one of the first ones arrested."

Maxwell's body is expected to be exhumed from the Mount of Olives after the Prime Minister personally called the Israeli leader and asked to borrow one of their diggers that they are currently using to put up some new homes. It is believed that the Foreign Office suggested that this might be a suitable time for the Israelis to use a digger for something else as their new homes were subject to a debatable planning application.

Given that during his time in the spotlight Maxwell coveted support from such luminaries as both John Major and Neil Kinnock it is thought that this probe could have far reaching and lasting effects. Kinnock has already said that he is happy for it to go ahead as anything that makes his time in the 80s seem relevant can only be helpful.
