Fears increased that the spread of Bird puns has now reached epidemic proportions among headline writers following the discovery of the remains of a WW2 carrier pigeon.

Bird Puns are known to be highly contagious and can be spread not only visually but also by word of mouth. The only effective cure is either to cut and paste another headline or to dowse the infected newspaper with petrol and torch it.

The first reported outbreak was "Coo done it?" which appeared in early editions but lines such as "Nest we forget" and "Was it Fowl play?" quickly followed.

More worrying for the public is the news that the puns have filtered down into the body copy with lines such as "He certainly wasn't chicken", "Did he squawk before he died?" and "Owllo, Owllo, Owllo" infecting entire sentences. There has also been speculation that the creature may have reached the rank of Wing Commander.

"The situation remains serious" said a leading headline writer "but we're guano continue for as long as we can"
