'At my age I'll be lucky if I manage to see a million birds. It's enough to make you put your binoculars away for good.'</p> <p>Mr Philips, who has been a birdwatcher since primary school, and who once had the privilege of observing a rare feathered visitor to these shores from just a few feet, says it's too late to find something else to do with his life, 'Unless,' he said, I go back to trainspotting or rearranging my stamp album again.' </p>
