David Cameron’s plans to reduce the time limits for legal challenges against unpopular Tory policies have ‘hit a snag’ from the outset, with law firm Leagles Of Leicester submitting the first a what could be a long series of legal challenges against the move.‘Solicitors, lawyers, barristers and judges could all potentially lose a huge chunk of their income if the new rules come into effect, which is why we have submitted a challenge in the Court of Appeal today,’ said a LOL spokesman.

Nottingham law firm Roberts Olsen Thomson Fairbanks agreed that any talk of limiting the time for legal challenges should be ‘robustly challenged all the way to Brussels’ and are confident that the proposals will not be implemented ‘in our lifetimes’. ‘By the time they’ve completed the consultation, written a white paper, held a Public Enquiry, published their report and followed through with a High Court judicial review of the whole process, we’ll all be long since dead and buried,’ said 92-year-old Jacob Fairbanks Jr on behalf of ROTF.

Online campaigners 38 Degrees, whose members include thousands of legal people, have already launched an e-petition against the proposals to speed up legal challenges, under the banner ‘Don’t Delay, Delay Today.’ Richard Branson also has instructed his legal team to put in a challenge against the new rules. ‘Long delays are a national institution,’ he said ‘as many Virgin Train customers will know.’ And Abu Qatada said he would be putting in his own challenge ‘just for a laugh.’

The Law-Makers Advocates Organisation, which represents thousands of law firms, gave its full support to those challenging government policies ‘through the proper long-winded channels’. ‘We are only talking here about challenges against the idea of speeding anything up and not of course against the Prime Minister’s excellent suggestion to make such challenges far more expensive. We’ve been implementing that policy for decades,’ said a spokesman for LMAO.
