A Gaza Residents pressure group is confident they still have time to appeal against the planning permission for another Starbucks, which was rushed through by Gaza District Council on Friday.

The application was rubber stamped in record time, according to council minutes. The official reason given was that the council had to vacate the building quickly, in lieu of incoming missiles. "That explanation is totally unacceptable," said Arif Dogun, chairman of the Gaza Residents Association. "If we let Starbucks get away with it, where will it end. We're sleepwalking into a world of pain."

Dogun called on his fellow citizens to stop being so complacent and said that many have the wrong priorities. "Oh, they'll leave no stone unturned when looking for their cherished possessions or lost relatives. But will they join my protest? No. We need to wake up and repel the coffee."
