They were sending coded messages to pedophiles even back then. Gives new meaning to the Queen's Speech.

On the Now Show this evening, it was announced that the first programme aired on the BBC, 90 years ago, was a repeat of Top Gear. Great line!...

Similar point made by Paul Merton a few years ago re. Baker Street being the first tube station to open a century and a bit ago.
"Where did the trains go?"

Oddly enough I was listening to the wireless last night and Damian Albulm(?) asked the same question of the curator of the transmitter. His answer was that there were loads of radio hams chatting to each other so those in London were able to listen in to the Beeb. It was then transmitted to Manchester and Brum. So the answer is amatuer radio enthusiasts. Not funny but there you go.

And what about the first person to install a telephone. How long did they have to wait until there was someone to call?

Did anyone else think, "who were they broadcasting to?". Presumably no-one bought a radio just on the off chance that the BBC would start broadcasting.
Did they all chat about it down the pub?
"'Ere, 'ave you 'eard abart that new BBC what 'as started broadcasting and all?"
"We'd better get ourselves a radio so as we can hear what they are sayin'"
