George Entwistle during the Humphries interview .. "What I have said is that all editorial investigations need to be halted while we check the editorial vigour and supervision"

Only logged in to post a 'Newsnight to be replaced with Balamory re-runs' type thing but as you have so excellently beaten me to it and captured the spirit of the program being constrained to reading out monthly tractor production figures, covering flower shows and duck on a skateboard type stories I shall give you stars instead.

The BBC has announced that for the rest of the year at least, flagship current affairs program Newsnight will solely run stories on politicians’ cats.

The feline marathon will kick off with an examination of the mousing ability of Downing Street moggies Larry and Freya, who are both neutered and thus incapable of any sexual indiscretion.

Also scheduled is a hard-hitting look at how Nick Clegg’s kitten Lucky plays with a ball of wool. Lucky has not yet reached sexual maturity and he has never met any of his uncles who live over 100 miles away.

However a planned feature on Boris Johnson’s 18 year old tom cat Silvio is under a cloud over rumours he a serial womaniser who has fathered over 1,000 children. ‘And we are also a bit worried about Silvio’ said Jeremy Paxman.
