Father and son Murray and Raymond McDonald of Aberdeen are big Breaking Bad fans. Or were.

“It really brought us together,” said Murray, 50, who likes his counterpart Walt Skyler is a chemistry teacher. “Young Raymond said I should watch it and from the first episode I was hooked. And the fact we could identify so closely with the characters and their journey meant Breaking Bad really broke barriers. Of course young Raymond has none of the problems physically that Walter Junior has, apart from a skin complaint which he wouldn’t want to talk about, and that doesn’t affect his mobility.”

Raymond, 16 said: “So the show meant we had a real talking point, a real place to share thoughts about everything – even drugs. Then, halfway through Season 3 Episode 5, he lets rip this massive trump. Which if you’re not Scottish is nothing to do with skyscrapers or golf or bridge. It’s a fart. It was lethal. Really disgusting. Spoilt the atmosphere. Literally. During a tense bit. It was loud too. My baby sister woke up and cried.”

But Raymond’s Father Murray says this was an over-reaction. “If we learn anything from Breaking Bad it’s that nobody is perfect, and young people wrongly expect older people not to make mistakes. Guys my age can be just as capable of bad – more capable in a way. And my misdemeanour was, in a way, a scientific event. The release of methane-based gas building up in the lower gut. But youngsters like Walt Junior I mean Raymond have to learn the hard way. So, sure, it was my little accident, and no I haven’t told his mother about it, not yet.

Raymond, 16 added: “This is pathetic. Well I’m going to tell everyone my dad watched the show on an illegal download. And that he steals ball points from school. I don’t care.”
