Chancellor-in-waiting, Ed Balls, slapped down £2 cash this afternoon to pay for a canny £1 each way bet on super-horse Frankel. And the great star duly obliged with his unmatched fourteenth win in succession. A magnificent one and three quarter length victory in Ascot's prestigious Quipco Champion Stakes.

Accepting the challenging odds of 2:11on, Mr Balls took the bookies for amazing £1.05 return on his total stake. Recording an insignificant loss of just 95 pence overall.

After congratulating winning jockey, Tom Queally, Balls confirmed that horse racing was one of the many ways he intends to kick start the economy.
