Despite extensive house-to-house enquiries and with motorways, airports and shipping routes on high alert, Police think the midge may have somehow slipped quietly over the border and headed south. Police have circulated an artist's impression of the midge, and warned people along the south coast to stay indoors, keep their windows and doors locked and to contact the police Helpline on 0800 800800 or text SWAT if they think they may have seen or heard it. Police say they would also like to question the midge about 17 million other similar incidents in the Scottish Highlands which bear an uncanny resemblance to the Edinburgh attack, although they think the insect could have used an accomplice during some of them.
