Twelve-year-old Anthea Wills says she's beside herself with excitement at the prospect of history lessons when education secretary Michael Gove's new history curriculum is introduced into schools.

'It sounds awesome,' Anthea said. 'Just thinking about studying 200 key figures in the narrative of British history has me wetting myself. I just daren't think about stuff like the effect of Soviet-US relations on international affairs and the fall of the Roman Empire. This Michael Gove is a really cool guy.'

The education secretary has denied reports that, up to yesterday, Jimmy Savile was one of his 200 key figures.

'I think you are confusing him with the other guy with the big cigar,' a department for education spokeswoman said.
