An ambulance driver from Southend who wore his vehicle siren like a hat has been roundly criticised by the NHS. Shoppers were left feeling ‘ripped off’ after stepping aside to let pedestrian emergency services through to the counter in a corner shop.

‘You hear the siren and instinctively pull over to allow easy access for dedicated life-savers to do their vital work,’ said local shopper Madge Bellamy, ‘only to discover some pompous twat with a distorted sense of self-importance pulling off a queue-jump in broad daylight. It was absolutely deafening.’

The NHS disciplinary hearing found Malcolm Drummond guilty of misusing Health Trust property to cause a disturbance of the peace, while small shop-keeper Bernie Thomas was commended for his swift action in hitting Drummond over the head with a fire extinguisher.
