OMEC, the Organisation of Malteser Exporting Countries, has announced that it would consider increasing production of Maltesers if demand remains high. A spokesman for OMEC said "We do have the capacity to increase production by up to a million barrels a day, but this can't go on indefinitely. Western economies will have to understand that we are approaching 'Peak Malteser', and that new snack supplies will have to be developed within a decade".

The Green party has called for subsidised development of "snacks from wind" as an urgent priority for Britain. A dyslexic spokesman for the Onion Ring Producers Association said "We fully support this call to action. We have been generating wind from snacks for decades."
