Cancer patient, Brian Asquith, 52, says he has no regrets after winning a liver transplant in the Luton postcode lottery.

Mr Asquith who has been suffering from leukemia for the past 9 months has been buying postcode lottery scratchcards every day from his local Spar in the hope of winning the top prize of a bone marrow transplant.

Despite some notable wins, Mr Asquith is still hopeful that the big one will come in.

'I can't complain' said Mr Asquith at a celebratory press conference arranged by his local NHS Trust. 'In the last 6 months I've had 3 new kidneys, several rounds of laser eye treatment, 4 courses of IVF, a hip replacement and a brand new prosthetic arm. I know that if I just keep buying these tickets, I'll get the treatment I really need'.

Peter Stewart of the Bedfordshire local health authority added 'Mr Asquith has been a great ambassador for the postcode lottery. His determination to reach for the goal keeps him buying the tickets, and winning the prizes. The fact that he's spent more on tickets than he would have by buying a compatible child donor from overseas is neither here nor there'.

In a further ironic twist, Mrs Mary Watkins, a 63 year old alzheimers patient who moved into Mr Asquith's previous house in Bletchley last May, won a 3 week course for 2 of chemotherapy at the Milton Keynes General.

'I'm not bitter', said Mr Asquith about his poorly timed move to Luton. 'I'd done alright in that old house, but figured that a change of postcode could give me the boost I needed. I'm still hopeful'.

And following the press conference, Mr Asquith continues shuffling along the Wheathapmstead Road towards his local convenience store to purchase another batch of postcode lottery scratchcards, as well as some bacon and onions to go with the liver.
