I have three fruit bowls, none of which currently hold any fruit. I generally have some apples and maybe a couple of bananas there for the YM, but all three are completely empty at the moment because I had a clearout of paperclips, 1 pences, batteries, elastic bands, and small Allen Keys. I put them all into a rinsed out takeaway container and stuck it all in 'that' kitchen drawer. You know the one where you keep rolls of film, random keys, parts of no longer used remote controls, takeaway menus, hastily scribbled phone numbers, and dried out bottles of Tippex. It was wickerwork and, being organic, suffered from the acidic juices from rotting fruit and itself decayed, but over many years, like a piece of long-life fruit. Since then, I’ve been using a Pyrex ovenproof flan dish as a substitute fruit bowl, which holds my bananas and, again, AA batteries.
