<p>Hardened cynics were falling like flies as Andy Murray, Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and that ginger haired one all won Olympic gold. Against all odds, Britain's cyclists, rowers and sailors overcame a tsunami of world-weary British indifference and against a hurricane force howl of Fleet Street derision that our teams were no-hopers wasting lottery funding to piss it all up a wall in Stratford.</p>
<p>"It's the worst case of euphoria and optimism I've ever seen" said Fred Jones, chairman of the British Sarcasm Society, "and not even the Mayor of London making an arse of himself to the World's media has managed to dent it. We can only hope that George Osborne and the Bank of England can agree further Quantitative Easing in Britain's ennui reserves before we all go berserk and decide to invade somewhere else again"
