If you take out Pet Insurance with the meerkats, I do know that you'll get a free meerkat toy into the bargain. That would be a deal clincher for me and if I was going to pick one I'd probably choose Sergei . It's not like they're limited to car insurance.
I've thought about taking pet insurance out for our Lolle , but she's not worth it frankly.

Shit, tedweasel. There goes my sideline- remodelling stray cats to fit lost cats descriptions.

Get owners to pay for a microchip, register all the cat's details, appearance etc.

Cat gets lost. alert gets sent out. I say 'Found it', grab a stray, quick sex change, cosmetic surgery, bit of hair dye...then phone owner and tell them Hurrah! we've found your cat. Isn't it amazing that it strayed from Inverness to Cornwall?

PS- to clarfiy- its the cat that gets the sex change, cosmentic surgery and hair dye each time.

Overall insurance costs are rising as cats are faster and more powerful these days, with young, ineperienced owners 5 times more likely to claim in the first year.
There's also a number you can text to find out if your cat has been written off or is a 'cut and shut'.

Yep - think I may have said this before but our first [& uninsured] dog became diabetic and the insulin etc cost a small fortune, so have always gone the insurance route since. But 25%! I'm looking at the lazy sod right now, snoozing on the spare bed. It's not even as if he does anything useful - like bark at postmen.

Oh yes, final point- sometimes people say rather than pay pet insurance, just put the equivalent of the premium aside each month. Then if you never need it- you;ve still got the money.
I know someone who did that; their dog got run over two months later. They had £60 saved. Not a great help. If they'd paid for pet insurance, they;d have been covered for thousands.

Echo on what ID said. Complete waste of time for stuff like arthritis. Is something catastrophic (cat!) happens when the pet is young, it's very worth it. If you have money in the bank and/or credit cards with lots of availability, worth a gamble not to have it. Your hair would curl if I ever told you what my out-of-pocket costs were for the last year of my dog's life, but, worth it to me.

Ahem

Few points:
1. Pet healthcare costs peak in first year of life, go relatively quiet for c.8 years, and then increase towards end of life. Insurance companies typically want to sign up pets whilst young, protect themselves a little from congenital / developmental conditions (but only ones evident prior to inception of policy, or within a few days of policy taken out). During 'teenage to middle-age' healthcare costs lower, but protection in place mainly for trauma costs (which can be very large). Then in senior years, things start to wear out (stop me if I'm over-jargoning) and costs go up, so premiums are cranked to offset.
2. Most insurance companies operate postcode banding too- London costs are roughly double regional, for instance.
3. NEVER change you pet insurance policy to another provider. Any conditions already mentioned in clinical history (even if nto claimed for) automatically become 'pre-existing conditions' and are nto covered
4. Check you are covered for a condition for life, not just for a year. Many examples can arise in early life- arthritis, chronic skin disease, diabetes, loads of others- and will rack up big costs throughout life.
5. If you are choosing cover, I prefer policies that leave you to pay less per month, but you pay a substantial excess plus a percentage (10% is typical)for each claim, as that means owners still feel some limit and won't go bonkers by demending everythign regardelss of cost.
6. All that said, pet insurance is a good thing. I;ve just spent most of today putting a spatchcocked collie back together after a road traffic accident. Huge injuries. Likely multi-thousand costs once through intensive care. Owner wouldn't be able to afford that, but was insured, so a big concern at a stressful time relieved. Dog doing well so far. Wouldn't have been possible without pet insurance.

Hey ho...back off to the fun stuff...

Yes. I'm hoping the massive pile of twee, Miss Marple-esque bollocks quickly descends into devil worship and human sacrifice. Has the bald little spod ever actually been to the cunting countryside? Cunt. What a load of patronising horseshit.

Has it got any points? Do you keep it garaged at night? Have you thought of fitting it with a five mortice lock?

It might be your postcode. If a lot of cats have been written off in your area recently, that can push up the premiums.

Also, if it's a foreign cat, the parts to repair it can cost a lot more.
