Lego has confirmed that its latest series of minifigures, collected by children across the world, is a limited edition of the current UK cabinet. Rumours started last month, when leaked pictures appeared on Facebook showing Health Guy, wearing a white coat stamped ‘not to be removed from St George’s Hospital Tooting, Money Man, caressing a papier mache cat made out of used bank notes, and Culture Person, sporting a large Sky satellite dish on his head feeding into an earpiece.

Children shown previews of the new range reacted positively, but many appeared confused about their political significance. ‘My favourite one is the bad guy Red Wobbly Nemesis,’ said Kate aged eight, ‘but how does he fight the Supreme Leader Chap? Is it like my Ninjagos where they spin around hitting each other with sticks until one flies out of the inner-circle?’

When asked to comment, Prime Minister David Cameron was careful not to dismiss the idea out of hand. ‘I welcome this attempt to interest kids in British politics,’ he said, but I do wish they had consulted us on the design. For a start, all the faces are yellow, when many of them should have been blue. Assuming they’ve modelled the Supreme Leader Chap on me, Lego should know I’ve never worn a cape with ‘kick ass’ emblazoned across the back in diamante, not even in the bedroom. And Nick is livid about Right Hand Man having no accessories other than a table he continually cowers under.’

Should the series prove popular, Lego has hinted they may look at other legislatures. 'If kids like the Coalition, they're sure to snap up our Church of England General Synod set' said a spokesman. 'But we won't do the welsh assembly. You've got to draw a line somewhere',
