Due to the traffic chaos, the venue has been moved to Northern France. Scoring is kindly being provided by mounted French nobility at the other end of the field. The competition is the traditional 'simultaneous fire, decreasing range' format.

London 2012 organisers were left with a lot of explaining to do today, as hundreds of excited Olympic Archery competitors waited expectantly to be shown to their venue.

"Archery completely slipped our minds," Lord Coe admitted. "Let's face it, there are so many breathtaking sports to take into account, something was bound to drop off the radar. I'm just glad it wasn't Beach Volleyball, or the Running."

Plans were being swiftly put in place to allow disgruntled archers to borrow the archery facilites at numerous local schools and leisure centres. "People have been amazing," Lord Coe grinned, "giving up their scheduled lessons and club nights to let the Olympians have a go. It's true Olympic spirit, that's what it is. I'm sure at the end of it all our plucky archers will go back to their home countries with a smile on their faces and a tale to tell."

"It could have been a lot worse," he went on. "There was a spell when we thought we weren't going to get the ice machine working in the Hospitality Pavilion for the boys from Coca Cola, but that's sorted."
