There are some fantastic Opening Ceremony drinking games on various websites; I'm nervous about the 'take two shots when the camera cuts to Boris looking awkward' rule. I'm afraid.

Competitors from all over the world are converging on London as the 2012 Paralytic Games gets into full swing.

With competition tight for the medals, the paraletes have been in top training for this year's events including the 4x400 metre dash to the urinals, the synchronized belching, fountain wading and the vomit hurling competition.

Hans Schmidt from Germany has been training for years, taking the Oktoberfest in his strides as well as draining the bars at some of the great sporting venues in Poland and Ukraine earlier this year. When asked how does he do it, he replies simply: "Du bist mein bester Freund in der ganzen Welt. Ich liebe dich Mann"

But the Europeans are not the only ones putting arms, trousers and bladders under incredible strain with strong entries from Japan and especially China, where alcoholic exploits come naturally with socialism and no democracy.

The Games finish with the signature event, the Marathon Pub Crawl. Over 26 miles and 385 yards, the competitors risk severe cirrhosis to make it through 140 pubs between the start at the Beefeater near Watford and the finish in the Smoke Room at the Dog and Duck in Lambeth.

Paralytic organizer Ted Grimes is taking no chances with the marathon including free changes of underpants every third pub and GPS tracking to make sure that no competitors are lost. "We had terrible problems with locating competitors at the Beijing Games, especially one Scot who decided he fancied a curry and we only found him 6 months later in Mumbai"

Mayor of London Boris Johnson wished the competitors well and sent his regrets for not participating, but said "he would be with them in spirits as he is forced to watch some athletics on the telly"
