Really clever and really well written. I am aware that the headline itself is usually expected to carry the main gag, so that might need to be re-written "BBC denies Ferne Cotton Higgs-Boson documentary 'dumbing down'" but that might be a tad long... just a starter for ten.

But no way should this be frittered away on NiB - this is top notch FP.

BBC Director General, George Entwhistle, vigorously defended the inclusion of Matt Baker, Davina McCall and Fearne Cotton as the main presenters on the new glossy ten part series. The point is to communicate the complexity of particle physics to a lay audience and attract those viewers with thinking difficulties and short attention spans who may feel excluded by the inherent seriousness of the scientific experts he maintained. Being a good communicator was more important than expertise in the field and he cited Patrick Moore and Stephen Hawking as scientists who were, by and large, immobile, unattractive and difficult to understand.

‘We need presenters who can express themselves and are always excited by the world around them. This is not to say we won’t be using experts when needed; we have Russell Grant lined up for the cosmology episodes and Richard Hammond to demonstrate particle collisions. Jeremy Vine will be there to discuss any personal issues raised by the programmes and we’ve based John Barrowman at Cern who will use the medium of dance to explain wave-particle duality. Let’s not forget, the BBC is about inclusivity and we need to include thick people as they form the bulk of our audience demographic now ’

Brian Cox was unavailable to comment after vigorous spitting but Fern Cotton told reporters, ‘Bring it on, lab-coats and beardies, lovin’ it.’
