			<description>&#60;p&#62;Residents of the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock today lost their legal challenge against the IOC (International Olympics Committee) who are forcing the town to change it's name during the Olympic Games.&#60;br /&#62;
The IOC has intelectural property rights to the masocts for the 2012 games, Wenlock and Mandeville, including trademarking of their names. The IOC statement declares that &#34;The town has no link to the games, and did not seek any sort of offical partner status required. This has been a victory for the Olympic Games against a small section of society who wished to piggyback on the good will generated by the games and seek financial gain through misuse of IOC property.&#34;&#60;br /&#62;
It is thought that other towns in the UK and around the world will now be under legal obligation to change their names if they match words the IOC has registed as Olympic trademarks, although they may be able to revert to their oringal names in non-Olympic, and winter games, years. The Greek village of Marathon is understood to be seeking a commercial partner interested in renaming rights and the Dorset market towns of Piddle-in-the-sample-jar and Nandrolin Hadley have already been given notice that they will need to be rebranded before 26th July.
