David Cameron today stands accused of adopting a hypocritical position over the Jimmy Carr tax avoidance furore, as it has come to light that The Prime Minister has been pretty close to just such schemes himself. It's on the record that his own father built the Cameron family fortunes, and thus the PM's considerable inheritance, with the assistance of similar off-shore tax arrangements; schemes not only instigated by but also operated by Mr Cameron Snr.

When the PM was confronted with this last night he pointed skywards and said, "Look! I say, isn't that a flying saucer up there?" before attempting to run off when reporters' backs were turned. But in his hurry to escape further probing questions Mr Cameron took a tumble on one of the many potholes in the road. Potholes that should've been fixed but hadn't been because of insufficient funds being available, due largely to the proliferation of the many legal tax avoidance schemes currently depleting government and council coffers.

Rubbing his leg, looking uncomfortable and with no place to run a beleaguered Mr Cameron decided to try and face down reporters and attempted to explain when questions were put to him once again.

"Well look here, you see it is true some of these things you're suggesting - but here's the thing. Dad loved being rich and hit upon a way to be even richer. Now of course it goes without saying that he would much rather have paid his tax via PAYE like the majority of society, but the problem with that was it would've meant having to give away some more of his lovely lolly, wouldn't it? And I mean only fools, philanthropists and nice people give money away. And remember he'd put in quite a bit of effort into avoiding paying tax with these scams...err...schemes I mean, perfectly legally too by the way I'd like to point out, so he obviously thought sod that for a game of soldiers! And who'd blame him, what? Ha-ha!"

Meanwhile funnyman Carr is keeping his head down and hoping the storm blows over. In the past he has mentioned that he likes nothing better than when on stage telling jokes if the audience first laughs then immediately takes a sharp intake of breath and considers being offended or outraged. Well Jimmy, you must be having the most professionally fulfilling time of your career so far this week.
