Taking as their motto “every problem is an opportunity”, culinary-minded boffins at Apple have used the latest iPad’s notorious tendency to overheat to create a new product: the iPud. In the next upgrade of the popular tablet device, the heat generated from data processing will now be diverted into a hotplate on the screen where the iPud will be placed while the user continues to surf. As the heat produced directly relates to the rate and amount of data consumption, cooking times are replaced by bytes: for example, 1 gigabyte (roughly equivalent to downloading two feature-length films) will produce one piping hot iPud.

An Apple spokesperson said “Everyone has experienced hunger pangs while on the Net, and the inconvenience of having to get up, find something to cook, then cook and eat it, all the while potentially missing crucial updates in their friends’ lives. With the iPud you’ll be able to cook, eat and surf in one seamless experience which you can share in real-time.”

At the time of writing, flavours planned for the launch of the iPud include Bramley, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. However negotiations for cross-platform desserts are understood to be ongoing with Blackberry and Orange.
