What they said. Clever joke, but not in a useable format.
If you wanted to really annoy people you would do what leopold has done and explain the joke. Appears to work for "brbinstead" though. Can't understand why he/has only given 1 star though.

<Edit> This looks silly now as Loepold has just been evaporated. Hmmm. Nice to know someone has the power.

<Re-edit> No he isn't and they haven't; he's just on page 2. Am I losing my marbles?

I think there's room for stuff that doesn't fit the Newsbiscuit brief. Especially if someone is trying something a bit new.

SugarTits69 and youbuyitnow may not be everyone's cup of tea, but they are trying to do something original.

I personally quite liked Arrghgarry and Jesse Bigg in context. I can't concisely explain why though.

I think the difference here is that the flow of two-liner puns to which we have been treated over the past week aren't particularly original or clever, and with so many on the writers' room board at the same time the cumulative effect was annoying.

Perhaps Theo unfairly reaped the whirlwind that was sown by several new writers at the same time.

Yes there's the pressure to squeeze it into the available space. Note how the actual ticker allows for a longer line that one can actually fit in the headline space so one should be able to over-run slightly.
But then it won't have the punch on the page.

I liked it too.

Frankly, I don't know what happened here. I regularly see AWFUL, just AWFUL pun headlines published, things that I would be embarrassed to have written, yet they seem quite popular with others. If I can be bothered I go and give them a low rating but I never post about how I don't like them because it's dickish and starts pointless fights.

Ted's joke was marginally better than a lot of those.

I'm with Theo here. If it fits in the squares and it makes you laugh what's not to like? I find the format a bit limiting. I'd like to do interviews and featurey stuff, but whadever. Mind you I liked the bit where there was nearly a punch up! ts all got to be nibs and fox and that. I also enjoyed hearing theo Iain China. interesting.

With a little work it could be made to fit our format...

Something like

"Fabric conditioner maker sued over product that's a little too close for comfort"

(assuming that would fit).

Considering the relatively poor level of submissions recently, I'm surprised this one got picked on so much.

Thanks for the clarification weemat...

Such a shame that the intellectual/sophisticated elite can do nothing but snipe and pontificate eh? They must feel so good at the end of the day knowing that only they understand 'real' humour....I feel so safe knowing that these guys are here to save us from ourselves....

By the way....do you happen to know why elephants have big ears?....? Ooops!

Did you hear about the guy who didn't know what a flounce was?
He thought it was short for a small imperial measure of fluids.
(wait for laughter to die down)
Just heard the EU had decreed that a flounce will be replaced.
We have have to throw a 28ml in future.
(more laughter) .....

Comfort sub looking better now?

Stick with it Ted, most folk here are trying to be helpful and the rest don't matter.

The format you're writing in is that of a standup comedian. It's a setup (pause) punchline format better suited to oral delivery.

The form of this joke does not lend itself to the standard publishable format - a (self-contained) newspaper headline.
While these may be funny jokes, they won't be used in their current format.
Other gag site might welcome them in this format, but NB prefers NiB, FP, and Headline/tickers.
