Qox, you seem a tad angry today.
The positive spin on this is that there are 8000 idiots that don't talk about cats here.

Always look at the bright side of life.

On the subject of dull and derivative, has anyone seen this load of indescribably appalling shit? It’s called Learn To Speak Cat, appears in the Metro every day, and I can’t decide what I’m more angry about; that this guy makes money from these, or that horoscope writers make money from what they do.

The Facebook page has about 8,000 fans for fuck’s sake. Someone should explain to them that it’s not these cartoons they like, it’s cats. They like cats and somehow, by extension, think they like this too.

A link to the post in question would help. And how do you pronounce that name?
Ah, found it. I like it. What's an 'oxbridge?'

Certainly not dull. Very nicely written and a good laugh all the way through.
It reminded me of an incident in the village last year. A thoroughly nasy bastard who hung about on the edge of society and who had taken too many drugs to return, got murdered quite savagely by some other nomadic junkies. Despite having a string of kids by numerous barely-legal girls he had got hooked on heroin, the newpapers described him as a great father, brother and friend. His brother was the only known relative and had to fly from New Zealand to identify the body. People stared saying he wasn't that bad. Yes he was. He was fucking horrible!

Rule 1. Don't take your comedy too seriously. Nobody else does.
Rule 2. It's only the Ed and his NIB Gnomes you need to impress. They choose what to publish based on their own opinions.
Rule 3. The good writers always either encourage or stay silent. So you know the person tagging is most likely a twat who can't write for toffee.
Rule 4. There is no rule 4 so why are you still reading this bollocks? Away with you. Go on. Piss off you miserable sod.

You would not believe how tempted I just was to tag this with "piss off you miserable sod", but you wouldn't be able to tell that it was a joke, so I didn't.

I thought it was good. When you're writing something that's more observational than topical there's every chance something similar has been done before. I've had it pointed out to me 3 times on subs that I was treading close to ground somebody had covered on here before. Not in an unfriendly way though like yours.

I think the only person who may be breaking any new ground on here is youbuyitnow with his/her spoof spam, and even that has probably been done before somewhere.

Qoxiivi on "‘dull and derivative’"

Thought I’d post this in here as if I post it on the article where comment/tag resides then it’ll keep getting tediously bumped in and around new material and that’s good for anyone.

Anyway, first off, not sure what the ‘derivative’ remark refers to. If it’s the fact that a similar article has already covered this angle then, sorry, I didn’t know that. Otherwise, I obviously wouldn’t have written this. I certainly wasn’t trying to plagiarise anyone’s work.

If, however, it’s some kind of stylistic criticism then I’d recommend whoever created the tag take a long hard look at his or hers own work – and all the work on this site. It’s all derivative; we’re working to a format here. Take Ludicity’s homeopathic bomb piece. That’s about as derivative as you can get – it simply slams two concepts together and then explores the consequences by expanding into the absurd. But then that’s not the point – it’s a very funny piece of writing. Who here honestly thinks they’re breaking new ground in satire here?

Secondly, dull? Fair enough, that’s subjective. I thought there were enough funny lines and angles in there to keep it going but am certainly not precious.

Thirdly, care to own up? I promise I won’t hold it against you and 1-star everything you write in future, unlike some other pathetic and infantile contributors on here.
