Upper Crust is a genuine chain of bakers, but it isn't posh. If you want posh, you have to go to Chatwins.

Fortnum and Mason's are to launch a range of Upper Crust Pies . This follows hot (with added VAT) on the successful product placement in most newpapers by David Cameron " Once the PM was seen with the MPs ( meat pies) we knew we had a winner . Our last success in this range was in 1738 when we invented the Scotch Egg but if Alex Salmond has his way we could lose claim to that invention . So this is be an important product for us".

The pies are still under wraps but sources report a few celebrity chefs, inclduing Heston, have been seen in and around the premises of late. Heston successfully developed the orange in a Christmas Pudding for Waitrose and so hope are of some meat in a pie. Hugh Fernley Whitingstall famed for his adventurous game pie of pheasant, hare, venison, stoat, boar partridge and duck pie is being considered, although his suggestion of locally culled Devon Badger pie did not go down well we hear but did come up a lot easier.

Upper Crust Pies will be avialble only to those who can prove they are ( or were ) 50% taxpayers so that's George Osborne off the list
