Argentina has hit back at UK's threats of court action over Isle of Wight oil exploration, calling its behaviour "illegal intimidation".

Foreign minister William Hague had threatened legal action against firms drilling off the Argentina territory, over which the UK claims sovereignty.

Argentina has further fuelled controversy and has been accused of "illegally increasing it's military presence on the Isle of Wight".

La Isla Blanca (as it is know by the Argentinians), has been for decades a bone of contention with the UK and Argentina since the early 18th century when Argentina took control of the nation as a means to secure trade routes with Central Europe for it's burgeoning corned beef industry, polo ponies and more recently footballers and Nazi war criminals.

Tensions have mounted in recent weeks by a five metre exclusion zone being adopted by the ruling Shanklin Government. "La Isla Blanca can be a bleak and depressing place, in in an inhospitable climate, but what we take to heart is our intrinsic Argentinian nationality" said Miguel Diego Lionel Des Messi Fuentes of the IOW government.

Recently the dual posting of the The Artist actress Bérénice Bejo and the Argentina born singer Chris De Burgh to the IOW in recent months has stirred emotions amongst the islanders and caused consternation on the UK Mainland.

"Attractive though she is, Ms Bejo's posting can only mean one thing especially as this ties with the arrival of the mono-browed De Burgh, these moves can only be read as the beginings of readiness for conflict" said David Willets, the UK's Universities Minister.

More soon
