Yes, it's another first for the IoW! The town of Yarmouth is delighted to announce the launch of the first 'social networking site' - Facebook.

Once The Cross Priests' Arms, the site continues to maintain much of the older pub style, while welcoming the 20th Century in the form of many new "apps" and things.

People can chat, exchange holiday photos and play games like shuffleboard and table skittles - and there's a covered smoking area.

Facebook landlord Jim Minogue, 47, is very proud of the venture. "It's is possible to be both advanced and traditional in this business" he crowed. "Many of my aquaintances on the mainland like to josh about the Isle of Wight not knowing about Facebook - well who's laughing now, eh?"

Facebook continues to serve real ale and Perry, but has also embraced the modern era - you'll find both Pink Gin and Dubonnet on its spotlessly clean cocktail menu.

"We are a bit worried about unsavoury characters using the site, pretending to be people they're not. But then I suppose they always have, what with the bi-annual cross-dressers orgy and bridge evening. But we are taking care to install a panic button. Well, it's just a badge that says 'panic', but I make sure all the staff pin it to their aprons. It reassures people."
