Thanks Ironman. I think you are right about the last para. Reading it back it is a bit weak!

Some really good ideas in there; perhaps the last paragraph unnecessary, the green pepper red tomato make a better punchline.

BBC Executives have admitted to “failing to see the signs” after archive footage of disgraced chef Antony Worrall-Thompson was released, showing his appearances on Ready Steady Cook.

Director General of the BBC Mark Thompson, who strenuously claimed to be no relation of the celebrity chef (perhaps protesting a little bit too much) explained that following his recently publicised problems, the vaults containing the reels of previous shows had been opened up. “In one show Antony had the usual £5 to spend on a bag of goodies to cook from and he turned up with organic chicken, shallots, scallops, garlic, brie, beef tomatoes, lobster, caviar and Tesco finest Dauphinoise potatoes”.

“He then also produced three bottles of cava and a bottle of Blue Nun, telling us they were ‘on special’. He went on to make a big song and dance about how he was a gentleman of great integrity, so gave us back the £2.43 that he had failed to spend. All of this went out on air so perhaps we should have worked out that all was not what it appeared.”

Fern Britton, who presented the show for six years before leaving in 2000 said that she was “so over that show and barely gives it a second thought these days. Antony’s flamboyant cooking always left me green pepper with envy of his talents but these revelations are sure to make him red tomato with embarrassment”.

Her successor, Ainsley Harriot, who presented the show for another decade was unavailable for comment last night as he was filming a Ready Steady Cook[i] Racist Footballers Special, featuring Luis Suarez and John Terry.
