Seems to me Diane Abbott is a bit like Adolf Hitler.

Yours sincerely

PS Now that I have the 80th posting on this thread as well as two other high scores, does this entitle me to a prize? An honorary degree at Newsbiscuit Uni? A knighthood? A Front Page... no, silly me, that would be going too far!

I'd happily take home the 3 Great Danes, but a pug?!

So the Vet I worked for was making it all up? No wonder she used a wonky anaesthetic machine that knocked us all out with ether fumes.

No such thing, its just when you do a caesarian you do a little pup shuffle and send the lab owner home with something like 3 Great Danes and a pug.

Bit of a giggle for those of us too old to wank in a tube and tick 'Afro-Caribean' and 'Auburn' on the sheet.

Waylandy, I've already warned you about casting slurs upon the nectar that is Irn Bru.

Truly, there is no greater hangover cure known to man, and the amber beauty is now exported throughout the civilized world. And Australia.

Red-headedness is not a purely Scottish trait, although we do have the highest percentage in the world, but is the basis for all hair colours from blonde to darkest brunette.

I think blue eyes are the result of a 'crumpled' gene? Not sure exactly what that means, but I saw a pseudo-science programme that explained in stupid terms that I could understand.

All eyes start out blue, and gradually turn dark brown. Unless the gene is 'crumpled', which stops the process at the point of the crumple.

Ginger hair, however, is a result of drinking Irn Bru. The disgusting flavour means that ginger hair will one day be a thing of the past.

Wrong bit of science for me, I'm afraid - spend most of my time nudging bits.
Intrigued by the idea of golden puppies though.

Had a similar experience to dvo's poor sap when I was jumping through hoops doing my fostering assessment - particularly when carer's rights were mentioned ( no rights, plenty of responsibilities ) . Got my own back by casually dropping the phrase "mutual grooming" into the conversation though .

At primary school I was forced by the teachers to go around to a mate's house and apologise to his parents after calling him "son of a rattle snake". His name was Steven Senovaratni. He wasn't offended, neither were the other kids we made up silly names for.
His mum was equally baffled, so Steve and I just went out to play as normal.
I hadn't realise that his father was from India until that point.
This incident was in the early 1960s and was my first encounter with racial discrimination. I am still unsure who was in the wrong but the fact that I can still remember his name over 40 years later must mean something.

I was a mature social work student in the mid-90s. We students came from a wide variety of backgrounds and were exhorted to be open in saying what we were thinking and to challenge the established view; all in the spirit of enquiry, search for learning and expansion of our thinking.... When some poor sap did just that he was comprehensively shot down in flames by students (and staff too I believe). His mistake had been to question the anti-establishment establishment.

Those of us more reserved types were thus able to experience the psychological concept of 'observational learning' posited by Albert Bandura, who (if memory serves)said that the observer effectively learns how to behave by seeing the consequences experienced by others. Or, as they used to say in my earlier pre-public sector career 'watch and learn my son'. In, let's say e.g. the Kingston University School of Social Work (other centres of learning excellence are available) the lesson was to know what you were supposed to believe before asking the question.

Happy days.

Without wishing to sound like a pinko lefty liberal guardian reading vegetarian apologist... I'm watching the darts on TV and there's one competition open to everyone and one competition open to women only. Is this blatant sexism or actually some sort of attempt to get women darts players on the TV (albeit for a time amount of broadcast time in comparison) - lets face it, an increase in the number of women darts players seen on the tele is something we can all enjoy and be proud of, in many ways it feel like the happy closure to a story that began in the 50s when Elizabeth Fry threw a horse at the King to get the vote.
But there's no black only darts tourny on TV, and next to no black darts players at the highest level. The reason, I can fathom from that, it that non-white players have absolutely no disadvantage in the game, whereas women (or non-males as I like to think of them) do *seem* to have some sort of disadvantage. I use *seem* there because I don't think its a proven - is it a nature or nurture caused thang? If just nurture then applying some positive discrimination (women only darts matches on TV) might get more women playing and the increase in numbers will lead to more women getting into the normal darts tournaments and prove that there's not actually any reason for women to have their own version.
There's no women only Countdown, and any letters I may have sent to that effect were nothing to do with discrimination per se.

...so having 'black layer society' or could be seen as a result of a nurture based problem caused by institutional racism. no one is going to claim that black people make better or worse layers than white people. But if it's harder, or more unlikely, o*on average* for a black person to get to become a layer then maybe some forms of positive discrimination and increased support are still necessary.
I guess this might come down to whether you think our society is just about free of racism (both overt and unwitting) or not. We're obviously much less racist than 20, 30 years ago but maybe we're not quite there yet, or maybe we're just still suffering from the headache of our racist past.
There are some signs that things are just about as equal as they can be; last summers equal opportunities riots brought people from different backgrounds and postcodes together to either rob shop keepers, or look to shake their heads at the youth of today and blame the government rather than any race issues. It was a beautiful thing.

Finally, pretty sure that William Wilberforce, the guy who ended slavery, was white... so y'know can't we forget about the whole bad aspect of our past and celebrate this aspect instead? Not saying that all white people deserve a big thank you for that but... well, it might help heal some rifts...

shitsu - that surely wasn't a genuine letter from the Society of Black Lawyers. Because if it was genuine that would mean that, even when a black politician makes a fatuous (at best) offensive remark, it's STILL my fault - being part of the white community.

A long time ago I worked for a left-wing council in north London. The race committee issued an edict stating that in the staff canteen, coffee was to no longer be referred to as ‘white’ or ‘black,’ as ‘black’ was a politically loaded term. The next day, the ladies who ran the canteen, all of whom were of West Indian origin, made a point of asking ‘how do you want your coffee, darlin', white or black?’ To them, racism was being insulted or hit in the street, or having dog shit pushed through their letter box, not this trivia. They didn’t want or need white liberals explaining what racism was and paternalistically trying to protect them. Ms. Abbott seems to not heed the idea that the politics of grudge and grievance is ultimately self-defeating, in that it fosters more resentment and division and ultimately slows down progress towards a fair society.

Are all black people gaffe-prone, inner city MPs?

On balance I like being White male in this country (and when I travel globally for work). I get a pretty good deal. I'm heterosexual too. And right handed. Everything is pretty much set up for me.

If I had a choice, I would pick the same options again, even knowing in advance that I would have to put up with Diane Abbott's horrible racist slurs and mysterious black solicitor cliques telling me what to think about her comments.

Seriously, what do I care what Diane Abbott says? Come on everyone, "lighten up". It's great being white.
