I will soon be eBaying a sinclair spectrum (boxed) plus expansion kit and microdrive. I also have a quantity of old style scalextric and some 1970's annuals to go.

Think that's how I got Hitch Hikers also. Any day now I expect such items to appear on Antiques Roadshow. Mine of course long consigned to the bin.

"I just threw out my tapes of Hitch Hikers Guide, the radio show. Had to record them with a microphone off a transistor radio, so some episodes had mum calling me to dinner on them” - Jesus, that reminds me of trying to record the theme music from ‘the Sweeney’ for a school Christmas revue (don’t ask) - every fucking week my dad would talk over it, usually “are you recording this”? How I never hit him with the tape deck remains a mystery.

Even nostalgia used to be better in those days.

I've hundreds of C60 and C90 in the garage, chewed by a variety of rodents. But I'm sure they'll be Ok. Possibly still got that broken 45" of the "Ying Tong Song" somewhere.

Maybe something about them being damaged and a BBC technician restoring them by winding the tape back in with a pencil?

my C90s were full of recordings from Top of the Pops. I'd prop the machine up in front of the telly, and press the 'play' and 'record' buttons simultaneously as a 'fave' was introduced, then choke them as soon as the applause started at the end. Some of the best ones had the dog (Huisdean, pronounced 'Ooschin') barking in the background.

I miss those days.

I miss that dog.

Oh! Oh! Nice one WLS, and thanks for the memories. I shall spend the next wee while singing 'You Needed Me' by Anne Murray, before it's chopped off at the end.

Lovely and bonkers as always.

But in my cassettes range from Steve Wright through to Simon Mayo via Gary Davis and Mike Read.

There might even be a Peter Powell and David "Kid" Jensen or two in there.

Ah nostalgia. My first cassette player was so heavy on battery use that it might have been cheaper to pay to see the 'now playing' band live.

Brilliant. Not sure if I like the reference to big batteries or chewed up cardboard in the hole on top best but either way wonderfully nostalgic

Music fans are braced for a trip down memory lane on New Years Day, as 6music announced it will exclusively play old C90s for 24 hours. The decision was made after nearly 5 working audio cassettes were discovered in a shoebox decorated with Smash Hits stickers, it's believed one still has the holes on top filled with chewed bits of card, to allow recording.

"Audiophiles are always banging on about how great tapes were and that", announced Jarvis Cocker from his allotment studio. "Luckily I've still got my old Sanyo tape deck in the loft. We just need to find a cleaning tape now, and a dozen or so of those big fat batteries."

6music aren't sure exactly what they'll be playing as the labels are all curled up. "Listeners are in for a treat, we've found one that hasn't stretched that much. Although you'll have to bear with us in between songs, while we fast-forward Bruno Brookes."
