You still haven't got the right idea, have you. I'm bumping this up one more time and if that doesn't get me a five-star rating then I'm going back to making up stories for News International.

I see this has been voted down by someone who obviously can't see anything funny in truth. I'm now bumping it up so that others with a sense of humour may reverse the damage.

Merry Christmas to all my Five-Star Voters.

People looking for laughs on the web are increasingly attracted to factual news services, according to a report published today.

"Why read contrived stories when you can visit the BBC News website and see that George Michael's chest infection gets more coverage than natural disasters with death tolls in the thousands … or that day-to-day events in the private lives of reality TV show celebrities get more attention than war in the Middle East and ongoing atrocities in other parts of the developing world?"

Other factual news websites support the finding and have also reported an upturn in public interest, most noticeably for their commercial videos. A spokesperson for the advertising department of the Daily Telegraph pointed out that interest in their car commercials was so high that many people logged off so as to rush out and buy a Range Rover before they'd even got as far as the news video clip that had attracted them in the first place.

The NewsBiscuit circulation department was not available for comment until "some time after Boxing Day".
