Typically the Party supports the Independent, citing ambiguous bias and tendancy for hyperbole as justification. However today Party Leader Nick Clegg announced 'The Guardian's time has come' and that 'The Guardian has taken the Independent's place in newspapers'. </p> <p>This is an unusual move for Clegg as the Guardian is typically associated with bad spelling and a relaxed attitude to swearing, both of which angers the Lib Dem's mild-mannered popularity base. One supporter, Mrs G. Duffy of Rochdale asked us 'Where are all these Eastern Europeans coming from'. </p> <p>Furthermore the Liberals' support of the newspaper was a surprise to many due to the newspapers penchant for humorous pieces. At the time of going it press it is unknown whether the Liberal Democrat party had a policy (or indeed a sense) of humour. </p> <p>It is also unknown what the Guardian's reaction to this change of stance will be. Many feel the paper might lose popularity and the Lib Dems might harm the Guardian's image as an edgy, exciting read. However, it is generally felt that Guardian News and Media limited needs all the support it can get in Thursday's battle against Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. which has the support of the Conservative Party. </p>
