After days of vitriolic hyperbole Hague was repeatedly challenged by calls of “go and smash ‘em up Bill” from the back benches, however, it appears he may not be feeling quite so brave without his Western democracy around him.

“If he is so tough, why doesn’t he just get on a flight to Tehran and start pummelling-up the Iranian government” said the Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander. “or is he just all mouth and no trousers?”

This comes only a day after Hague posted a highly inflammatory, dialogue-free clip on his Youtube channel, showing himself setting fire to a napkin with a vague likeness of the Iranian flag drawn on it, then stamping on it for several minutes on his garden patio with an uncharacteristically red face. The Iranian ambassador has declined to comment, possibly because he’s on the plane home.

Cameron has stood by Hague confirming that he has indeed got a full calendar due to “the X Factor semi-finals on Saturday, dinner with a representative from the Cook Islands on Sunday and darts from Monday to Wednesday”

“William would like nothing more than to launch straight into a windmill punch attack on the first Iranians he sees after touching down in Tehran and he hopes he would knock out several key installations on his one man – fist only route of attack direct to the heart of the Iranian Government. He is unfortunately a Government Minister and has an awful lot of other things he must be getting on with”
