Human Rights Watch has claimed that torture was routine in a secret Baghdad prison. At a press conference, Mustaph al Harashi, who was held at the prison for two years, claimed that torture was unimaginative, trite and at times, downright dull.
"OK, so sometimes there was a vague attempt to try something new, but most of the time it was the same old ripping out of fingernails, stress positions and James Blunt albums. The only highlights, if you can call them that, were when you British were involved. But, overall, I have to say "vieux chapeau" frankly. I'd have liked to see them stretch themselves a bit (pardon the pun) with, perhaps, casting for my eyeballs with their fishing rods, or nailing my tongue to the roof of my mouth. But, I sensed that after, what is it, seven years, that their hearts just weren't in it. I hate to say it, but things were better under Saddam."
