I didn't have the experiences he describes but recall our school remembrance day services to which the families of 'old boys' who didn't make it were invited and the sobbing of mothers in our midst.</p> <p>I only speak for moi but I am more then pleased to buy the annual poppies and have on occasion been known to make the odd donation to 'Help for Heroes'. I am grateful for the relative freedoms we enjoy in the UK and for those who contributed to that end. That includes my aircraft fitter father and tank driving father-in-law - a gentler kinder man you would be hard-pressed to find.
