My parents' house is stuffed full of stuff like that stuff, Stunts. Yet they can never find anything even when it is, eventually (my step mom has wrapping paper scraps salvaged in the 70s), needed they can't find it. Their HUGE shed is called the where?house. Drives me nuts. So I charity shop donate, eBay and freecycle (we're behind the times here, Scroat) anything that's no longer needed. Still rather overwhelmed by STUFF though, as Mr Sauce and both saucelets don't like to part with their toys.

Love the request for not one but TWO 5-bar gates, Scroat. Maybe they're smallholders and their stock's roaming. Or, as you say, merchant bankers (and their stocks ...).

We often get the obvious hopeful collectors hoping to get something valuable to flog on eBay - "Any old vinyl records" and so on.

I suffer from that middle class thing of thinking 'ooh, nobody will want that, how mortifying to put it on Freecycle' whereas somewhat posher Dr Stunts is right in there trying to womble someone's child's bicycle and palm them off with a minging fourteen year old dishwasher. Mind you, he throws NOTHING away. If the lucky boy didn't have me to confiscate the trash he'd be on some documentary, surrounded by jam jar lids, ice cream tubs and flies.

Scroat, maybe the folks with the request for five-bar gates were collectors?

As a satirical (and oh so hilarious) response to some of the most over optimistic wanteds I once posted a request for the moon on a stick. I had several responses and ended up with a nice gibbous one.

Don't get me started, honestly. Too late. We have the most amazing wanteds round here. Someone wanted two five bar gates for their drive. Well if they can afford a f*cking big house with a f*cking drive, they can afford a couple of f*cking five bar gates.

There. That's better.

Freegle, which is what it's called now, is all about saving stuff going to landfill. Trouble is, I'm sure lots of people get stuff and then sell it on. Not in the spirit of the thing.

Anyone else subscribe to these local entertainments? We get rid of odds and ends of computer equipment and so on. I'm contemplating offering the kids, as no one bid on eBay.

wanted: house moving boxes
bloody big boxes, I imagine

offered: 1/2 fence panel

There's a vast discrepancy between the "wanted"s and the "offered"s with the former often being wildly optomistic about what other people might be prepared to give away.

wanted: wood-effect 2-drawer filing cabinet

wanted: wide-screen tv with digibox

offered: contents of dead hamster cage

I think NB could do better ... ?
