George Dixon of Dock Green would ave been proud of this piece govnor - he made bobbies of today look like pansies wearing kid gloves. If I remember rightly, water boarding was introduced to the UK in series 3 when George started using it to elicit confessions after electric shock treatment was banned as it left scars - evenin all

As you can see the Scotland Yard sign is a minor obsession of mine along with Shirley Bassey

I'm seeing stars again here nick.

Bit of satire there ladies & gelmum. I think that the phenomenom is known as a Blair Peach as in "Would you believe it? That young Alfie done a blair peach on the way down to the custody suite, sarge."

Technical query. If they wanted to make the officers appear busier, wouldn't they slow the sign down? So, say, by comparison a snail passing by it would appear to be going faster.

Accidental falls down police station steps are set to rise, as health and safety regulations in the force are eased. Falling down stairs in police custody reached a high in the 1980’s, as the unofficial “clip round the ear” policy of traditional community policing waned. Suspects and their friends were among the most prolific trippers, while police officers themselves scarcely tripped at all, a discrepancy attributed to superior police training. Ethnic minorities were among those most prone to accidents on police stairs, a statistic police sources attributed to “visitors to our shores being unfamiliar with the dimensions of British staircases.”
The relaxation on staircase safety may include more flexible bannisters and more economic lighting. The Metropolitan Police also announced the revolving Scotland Yard sign would turn up to 23% more quickly, to make senior officers appear busier.
