However, the figures also show a rise in unsecured toupées, with consumers taking on more risk than any time in the last 22 months. Commentators have attributed the fall in relatively risky mullet activity during the first quarter of this year to a combination of mild weather and a rise in the incidence of head lice. The preference for glueless hairpieces also seems related to the warm winter, usually a practise reserved for the summer months. 'We were aiming for a drop in mullet use this year, but it's disappointing to find the weather as the cause,' said leading hair designer Trevor Sorbie, 'We were hoping it would just happen naturally because it looks like crap.'
