The couple fell madly in love and were married within months. Both were huge fans of Lewis’s ‘The Power of Love’.<br /> ‘We believed everything he said in that song,’ said Laura, ‘we thought it was just so magical. We planned our lives accordingly, and now we are stuck in a terrible rut.’<br /> And stuck in a terrible rut they truly are. The claim form lists the advice given by Mr Lewis as amounting to a direction that those in love need neither money, fame, nor credit cards; and also that the power of love, curious thing that it is, entitled them to free rail transport. Speaking from their British Transport Police holding cell Mike Johnson explained, ‘We jumped on the train at Southampton, safe in the belief that the power of love, as Huey described it, would allow us to travel to the airport for our honeymoon. However, the ticket inspector didn’t accept that our feelings for each other constituted a valid ticket or pass for travel, as defined by the national conditions of carriage. We were issued with an on the spot fine, but we knew we didn’t need to pay it, we thought our love would suffice. And then the police arrived.’<br /> The newlyweds were arrested and detained. It was only during the police interview that it became clear to them that the power of love was not as Huey Lewis had described it. ‘I was so upset,’ said Laura, ‘and I realised that this placed us in a financially disastrous position. We had confidently believed that all the wedding expenses would be covered by our love, and we have already exchanged contracts on a 4 bedroom house in Wroxall- no one told us that we would have to use money. And my husband, Mike, would never have taken that precarious position on the Futures Market if he’d known that he needed more than our love.
