Another MoD story that's bordering on the plausible - would the 'nearby army assets' then pelt the intruders with meccano ?

Not as fearsome as the 3-pin plug. They're banned under the Geneva convention.

Further news of restricted budgets has emerged from the MOD today. Mr Ivor Smith, an MOD spokesman announced that "whilst aware that there is an operational requirement to secure areas whilst not being patrolled by troops, the use of purpose built anti-personnel mines has become prohibitively expensive. Therefore we have decided to issue the Corps of Royal Engineers a large supply of loose 8 Stud Lego Bricks, mixed colours".

When asked to explain the rationale behind this decision, Mr Smith replied "well I am sure that most parents will have had the experience of walking around barefoot at night and encountering an unassembled brick. The noise made by the person so compromised can be heard for a great distance, thus alerting nearby Army assets. We would have used 3-pin plugs, but they have been banned under the Geneva Convention."

When an agog reporter suggested that Army footwear was reasonably robust Mr Smith replied, with a little smile, "that's why we are deploying them against the Taliban initially".

With thanks to Timbo and Young Sean, you know who you are.
