Mr Ivor Smith, an MOD spokesman announced that "whilst aware that there is an operational requirement to secure areas whilst not being patrolled by troops, the use of purpose built anti-personnel mines has become prohibitively expensive. Therefore we have decided to issue the Corps of Royal Engineers a large supply of loose 8 Stud Lego Bricks, mixed colours". </p> <p>When asked to explain the rationale behind this decision, Mr Smith replied "well I am sure that most parents will have had the experience of walking around barefoot at night and encountering an unassembled brick.
