A plucky mountain lion had completed 1800 miles of a sponsored walk from South Dakota to New York City before being tragically killed by a car 50 miles short of his destination, where a grand ticker tape reception had been planned.

Sponsors are now locked in a bitter dispute as to whether there is an obligation to make a 97% pro-rata donation for the 1800 miles covered or whether the early termination means it is null and void.

“Frankly I only signed up because of peer pressure, and I’m sick of these charity muggings” said Dale West of Black Falls, Michigan, “only last week I had to sponsor my sister’s parrot to ride a little bicycle 50 miles for Help The Psyttachotic, it’s so hard to say No, but money is tight”.

The cougar’s charity, however, remains adamant that sponsors should pay up. Vinny diMaio, head of debt collection for Predators for Justice, warned ‘You really don’t want us to enforce the clawback clause’
