Unite union leaders announced today that they were ferrying striking BA cabin crew to Iceland at the beginning of the week, "to stand side by side with this force of nature, which has clearly erupted in support of our membership. We will not stand back and watch management try to suggest that this occurence is some kind of random act of nature", stated Tony Woodley, unite Leader, this morning.

Meanwhile, beleaguered BA Managing Director Willie Walsh responded tersely to the news of the Union's latest proposed action. "This is typical of them. Whilst we have been seeking to engage in meaningful dialogue with the volcano to try to ensure minimal disruption for our customers, the Union is simply seeking to further fan the flames. Clearly the actions of the volcano have been independently driven, and the attempts of Mr Woodley to claim this event as some kind of act of solidarity are frankly pitiful".
