Police throughout the UK are hunting a man who went berserk in a Dorchester branch of Boots in the latest case of Boots Card rage.

'The suspect was apparently queuing to purchase a toothbrush and a bottle of hair-restorer when the incident occurred,' said Detective Jim Dicks who is leading the hunt.

'It appears that a woman who was ahead of him in the queue had just produced her Boots Card and was simply embarking on negotiations with the check out girl as to how many points from her card would contribute towards her purchases, when the man snapped and in a violent rage attacked her.'

A woman who was behind the suspect in the queue said:

'When the woman took out her Boots Card I heard the man cursing quietly to himself and he seemed to become very agitated when the check out girl started asking about the card and points and that.'

Detective Dicks said that the police were concerned at the growing incidence of Boots Card rage incidents.

'Regrettably, some customers who find themselves held up in a Boots queue by a Boots Card bottleneck are unable to control their anger and become extremely violent.'

He added:

'Several customers who were drenched in hair-restorer have now left hospital. In forty years in the force I have never seen such horrific injuries inflicted by an Oral-B CrossAction toothbrush.'

A Boots spokeswoman said the company regretted outbreaks of Boots Card rage in their stores. She said:

'However, to keep this in perspective, I must point out that our sales at the check out of our first-aid kits have rocketed and our customers can collect fifty Boots Card points on each kit purchased.'
